Summer in the Algarve... Breathtaking Portugal Albufeira, Lagos & Portimao vol. 1
Posted on 16 May 2017
The first time I planned a trip to Portugal was back in 2008, and I have been lucky enough to go back in 2010, 2013 and 2014 and hopefully heading back again this September. I really had no idea what to expect and I was completely blown away with the landscape, beaches and overall experience. Like Croatia, Portugal is one of the most underrated and beautiful countries I have ever been to. The people are amazing and after spending most of my summer in Ibiza and Barcelona, the prices in Portugal are a very welcome change. Food, day trips, car rentals, hotels, etc. are all reasonably priced and very affordable.
The first trip to Portugal, my friends and I decided to stay in Lagos all the way down to the end of the Algarve region. We stayed at a hotel called Sol e Praia which has since closed but it was absolutely perfect. We were literally walking distance from one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever been to, Praia Dona Ana. I've been to a lot of beaches in my lifetime so I guess I was expecting to see a typical beach, however, once we got to the edge of the cliff we were absolutely blown away with the view that unfolded beneath us.

We decided to take a little boat trip to further explore the gorgeous scenery and loved every second. I highly recommend that you do something like this to really delve into the whole landscape.

In the summer time, the Algarve is alive with parties after parties. We took a night trip into the next town over called Portimao and we went to see Eric Morillo in Praia da Rocha. It was definitely a night to remember!

We visited Albufeira in 2008 for the day but decided to actually stay for a longer time on our second trip in 2010. We rented a condo instead of a hotel room and stayed for 4 or 5 days. Albufeira is definitely a beautiful spot with soft sand beaches, awesome restaurants and a vibrant night life. It is definitely a much much younger crowd but fun none the less.

(Of course we found the "Canadian Bar" in Albufeira!)
Stay tuned for the next blog where we explore two other beautiful regions of Portugal; Viana Do Castelo and Marinha Grande!
